Seriously, though

I did find one useful food article today. It's a follow-up on all the E. coli scares from this fall.

The summary:
  • We don't know exactly what the source of the E. coli contamination in the spinach and lettuce was. It could have been in runoff from dairy farms, or in the water used to rinse the spinach, or cross-contamination from animal products processed in that plant, or possibly from something else entirely.
  • Leafy greens are more likely than other veggies to be dangerous, but none of them are 100% guaranteed safe.
  • Cooking greens thoroughly will kill the bacteria, but it has also been known to render spinach yucky (ask any five-year-old), and I cannot imagine how limp, mushy, and flavorless cooked lettuce would be.
I need to find a good, safe farm that produces safe, high-quality greens to sell.
